Hi Band & Band Parents/Guardians!

Our next fundraiser is slated for January, starting the first week back to school.  We got the venue approved for our Cow Patty Bingo!

I NEED volunteers to help on a committee to get everything organized and moving forward.

I am hosting a planning committee meeting on TUESDAY @ 6:30 pm.  To take advantage of the fact, that it will be GORGEOUS out, we will be meeting at Teddy Bear Park in Oak Ridge North.  Please bring your cheery self, paper, pen, and creative ideas.

The ORHS band members competed in Phase 1 of the TMEA All-State Audition process this past weekend. Our band kids represented ORHS extremely well with 25 students being named to the Region 9 District Band, and 22 of those students making the Region 9 Region Band and advancing to the Phase 2 audition. Monday:

1.Phase 2 Region Band Auditions – 5pm College Park HS (you must provide your own transportation)

  1. Midwest Percussion Rehearsal (Group A) 3-5pmTuesday:

  3. Midwest MANDATORY TRIP MEETING – 7pm in the band hall. Parents and students must attend. Final trip information will be handed out. Please bring your photo ID so that we can make a record of it.Wednesday:
  4. Midwest Percussion Rehearsal (Group A and B) 3 -5pm in auditoriumThursday:
  5. HOLIDAY CONCERT: all bands will be performing. Concert begins at 7pm in  the ORHS auditorium. Concert formal uniforms will be worn, please make sure you have the following:

 

Boys: black dress shoes (marching shoes will work) solid black dress socks white tuxedo shirt

Girls: solid black shoes (closed toe and heel) boots, flip flops, sandals not acceptable
****each band will have a specific warm up call time, please ask your child when that will be.

Everyone is invited to the Midwest Percussion Bon Voyage Concert- 3pm at ORHS. Please come and support our Midwest group as they perform the concert they will give at the Midwest International Band Clinic in Chicago. It is going to be Spectacular Concert!!!

War Eagle Band-  We hope that you  had a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday (ate, rested , and played alot)  We also hope that you are ready for the next three weeks….They are busy, busy, busy!

Some general information:

  1. Midwest rehearsals continue everyday this week. Please consult Mr. Dillard’s calendar for specific times.  The first performance is in two weeks and the trip is in 2 1/2 weeks so it is imperative that everyone attends ALL rehearsals.

2. The holiday season is full of many concerts, please consult the calendar for dates and times. All band students are in the process of being fitted into their Formal Concert Uniforms.  We will wear them on December 11 at our Holiday concert.   Please make sure you have the following items:

Boys:  long-sleeved, button down, solid white shirt with a collar (tux shirt)  You can get one from Al’s Formal Wear for a reasonable price.

  • Long SOLID black socks
  • Solid black shoes (your marching shoes will be fine)

Girls:

  • Solid black, CLOSED toe, CLOSED heel shoes (boots, sandals, flip flops not appropriate)

3.  Later on this week I will be sending an email out with more details regarding the Disney trip. In that email will be hotel, parade and chaperon details.

  1. Region Band Auditions Phase 1 are this week. Students have been preparing for this very big audition since August.  Please see the schedule for the auditions below (Friday and Saturday).  Good Luck to all who are auditioning.

This Week In Band:

Full Orchestra to perform at  The Holly Jolly Jingle Concert (Woods Pavilion)

3 – 4:30 rehearsal
4:30 – 5:30 dinner (provided) change into formal uniform
5:30 – bus to pavilion
7:00pm  Perform
9:00pm Return to ORHS

Midwest Rehearsals after school

Friday: 

Region Band Audition Phase 1 for the following instruments: (piccolo, oboe, english  horn, bass clarinets, tenor/bari saxes, bassoons, bass trombones, euphoniums and tubas)

4:00pm   DeKaney HS (NO BUS WILL BE AVAILABLE)  you must provide your own transportation to and from the audition.

Saturday: 

Region Band Audition Phase 1(continues for the following instruments:  flutes, clarinets, alto saxes, trumpets, french horns, tenor trombones)

2:00pm  DeKaney HS (there will be a bus available to go to DeKaney at 1pm) Please let us know if you are going to ride the bus or meet us there.  However, there will not be a bus returning to the school after the audition.  You must provide your own transportation from the audition.
