Hello War Eagle Band!
We congratulate the War Eagle Band on another FANTASTIC and award winning performance on Saturday at the USBand Cy-Fair regional. The band was awarded 2nd place (by .099 difference) and in addition won Outstanding Percussion, Outstanding Color Guard and Outstanding Visual caption awards. The band is getting better and better as we head to UIL competitions next week. The directors and staff are so very proud of the HARD work that the students continue to do, while striving for excellence at every single performance. It is already an amazing season and we are anticipating some Outstanding UIL performances.
For the next two weeks, the rehearsal schedule is a bit different. Please save this email and check the Charms calendar regularly. Rehearsals leading up to UIL week are SO important and it is VITAL that everyone is at EVERY practice. Please schedule outside commitments around these extremely important final rehearsals.
#1– The 9 week grading period ends this Friday (10/17) and that means eligibility is coming into play again. Students will LOSE eligibility if they are not passing every class with a grade of 70 or higher by Friday! If a student becomes ineligible it will virtually impossible to replace them for UIL contests. Please check your child’s grades in View It everyday this week. We are doing so well we do not want anyone to lose out on finishing our season! PLEASE HELP US ensure that everyone is passing all of their classes.
#2– There is a Booster Club meeting on Tuesday, (10/14) 7pm in the ORHS band hall. Information about the upcoming UIL contest will be discussed in addition to our regular agenda items.
#3– Friday is an early release day. Students will be dismissed at 11:30. There will be a VARSITY BAND only rehearsal at Woodforest Stadium from 1pm to 4pm. Varsity band students will need to be at the stadium by 12:45pm. If they need transportation, we will have a bus available for them to take at 12:30pm. JV band members will need to meet at Woodforest by 5pm. The pre-game meal will be served at Woodforest at 5pm and then the Full band will prepare for the football game. JV students will need to arrange for their own transportation to the stadium, we will not caravan over to the stadium. After the game, all students will need to return to ORHS to turn in uniforms and equipment. Information will be dicussed in classes on monday.
#4– The homecoming festivities are a tradition and the Homecoming Dance is scheduled for Saturday. Just a reminder, to schedule nail and hair appointments for Saturday. Students will be in full uniform for the Friday game…so that means hair will go up in hats and colored nail polish is NOT allowed to be worn in full uniform.
