1:45pm     meet at ORHS
2:00pm     Rehearsal
3:00pm     Dinner/dress
4:15pm     Load cars and set up Caravan
4:40pm     Caravan leaves
6:00pm     Game begins

GAME DAY CAR CARAVAN

Since Woodforest Stadium is less than 2 miles from campus, we do not take school buses to our home games. The District allows for us to drive personal vehicles in caravan. We caravan over to the stadium in a very orderly and pre planned way. It is you/your parents responsible to provide a ride or plan who you are going to ride with.

Here is the procedure: When dismissed to load cars:

#1- load car and line up cars in a pre-determined order ( police escort, 18 wheeler, directors car, quartermasters and drumline followed by all the band/color guard and the second Staff car)

#2- When the DIRECTOR car leaves the caravan is to follow the exact route to the Stadium. You will drop off and/or park in the designated section at the North end of the stadium.

#3 At the conclusion of the game, students will have 45 minutes to return to ORHS and turn in their uniform. Failure to comply with the caravan policy will result in you losing your privilege to attend future games.

US Bands Contest – Volunteer Now

Parents –

We are hosting a US Bands contest at Woodforest Stadium on September 27, 2014.  There are many opportunities to volunteer for this event.  Please log in to Charms and sign up for as many spots as you feel comfortable with.  This contest is an all day event and we have divided the jobs into shifts.  Some parents choose to help all day in different areas for different shifts.  However, we welcome any time that you can give on this day.  The more parent volunteers we have, the more successful this contest will be!

Please don’t worry if you have not helped at a contest event before, we will have a volunteer meeting next Tuesday, September 23, 6pm, ORHS Band Hall to run through the process and provide detailed explanations of what is expected for each job.  NO EXPERIENCE IS NEEDED!!

Working these contests is a lot of fun and you get to see what our kids are really working so hard for.  Half time at the games is really just practice for these contests.  It is awesome to see our kids perform as well as the other bands that compete.

Thank you all in advance for your cooperation in making this contest a success!!

Best regards,

Gina Torres

ORHS Band Booster President

Patriot’s Day Flags — Help Needed

Hey Band,

As of this morning I have 45 volunteers and I need a minimum of 71.

If no one else signs up EVERY PERSON THAT SHOWS UP WILL HAVE TO RECEIVE A MINIMUM OF 2 ROUTES. I hate to do this but that will be the ONLY way to get all of the flags delivered.

Please follow the link below or send me an email to sign up to help.

ORHS Band Flag Sign Up Sheet

We are placing flags this Wednesday from 6 to 8 pm. As of today I have 40 volunteers – I need a minimum of 71……

The more people we have sign up (and show up) to help – the fewer flags each route will have.

Flag pick up is from 6 pm to 8 pm Wednesday, September 10th.

Flag drop off will be 9 am to 11 am Saturday, September 13th.

(Directions for placing, picking up and rolling flags are below)

The Flag Storage:

Woodlands Boat & RV Storage

25520 Richards Rd., Unit #30 (Located off Hannah and Richards Rd.)

Thank you for all of your help with this fundraiser.

Placing the flags instructions:

You will pick up a route(s) and the appropriate number of flags from storage. Once you arrive at your first address you will remove the flag from your vehicle, UNROLL it and place it in the sleeve at the flag tag on the curb.

  • Some new subscriptions may not have a sleeve and flag tag yet, these houses will require rebar be placed in the ground and the flag placed on the rebar.
    • If this is needed place the flag in line with the front door

DO NOT STICK THE FLAG IN THE GROUND WITHOUT EITHER A SLEEVE OR REBAR

Picking up flags instructions:

When picking the flags back up, redo the route that you did when placing flags.

  • Pick up the flag out of the yard (get any rebar used as well). Please watch to see if the sleeve comes out – please notate any maintenance issues with the tag or sleeve on your sheet of paper.
  • Place the flag – flag first – in your vehicle.
    • You may roll and rubber band the flag when it is picked up or wait until you are back at storage.
  • Once all flags are picked up return them to storage, assist with putting the flags away and return your route packet(s).

PLEASE MAKE NOTE:

  • come early to get the route you want – early bird gets the worm….
  • please remember to call/text Rachelle immediately if there is any issue while putting out your route – missed flags without notice will result in no credit for the route (713-492-5384 – text is fine. Provide need your name, route # and brief description of issue)
  • feeling ambitious….take more than 1 route, increase your chances of winning in the drawings

PLEASE RESPECT OUR NATIONS FLAG AND DO NOT ALLOW IT TO TOUCH OR DRAG THE GROUND.

Thank you Rachelle Blunt

#2- This is the week that we set the Varsity and JV squads of our marching band.  Both squads will perform at ALL football games, ALL contests, and All parades.   The only difference between the Varsity squad and the JV squad is that…..the JV band will not march in our competitive show. Students have been evaluated on the following criteria:

  •       5 music pass off tests
  •      1 marching fundamental evaluation
  •      1 performance (halftime) opportunity
  •      attendance, inspection and rehearsal preparedness

Students named to the Varsity squad will continue to rehearse Tuesdays, Wednesday, and Thursdays.   The JV squad will only be required to attend Thursday rehearsals beginning this week.  JV members WILL NOT need to attend Tuesday/Wednesday rehearsals because those are the rehearsals we teach the contest show.   ALL VARSITY/JV BAND MEMBERS will attend Thursday rehearsals to prepare for the Game Halftime performance.  Again, let us emphasize the ALL band members (Varsity and JV) will perform at All football games, All contests, All pep rallies and All parades.

Chaperones Needed

Parents –

There may have been some confusion regarding the volunteer process with regards to Chaperone and/or Pit Crew.  Volunteers are not picked and/or selected.  Any parent / friend / relative over the age of 18 that has completed the Conroe ISD volunteer application and received approval can volunteer to help at any event posted in Charms.  You must log in to your Charms account, select the volunteer drop down menu, and pick the event / date you wish to volunteer for.

This week we have an away game at Thorne Stadium vs. Aldine.  We need several chaperone’s this week to ensure we have adults on each bus.  Please sign up!  We need you!!

Please forward your volunteer approval emails to the following:
